Now, exactly how do we get our hands on it?
Getting mail as a full-timer takes a bit more effort. Mail and packages don’t simply end up on your doorstep. Because your doorstep is always changing. So coordinating getting your deliveries with where you are at the moment? Well, you gotta think many chess moves ahead.
And a lot depends upon your travel vibe. Do you move a lot? Or a little? Do you mostly boondock away from civilization? Or stay at RV parks in cities? Oh, and where would you like to be domiciled?
That last question is what drove our decision to use a mail service in Carson City, which is our home base. Going that route serves as our link to deliveries as well as maintaining Nevada as our state of residency. There are a few states that embrace full-timers as residents and are dialed into helping RVers maintain a home state without having an actual unmoving house located there. But we love Nevada and wanted to remain residents, especially since we plan to return to build a house on our property one day.
They’ve become our lifeline on the road …
So using Anytime Mailbox through our local PostNet store lets us have an address and mail service in one. Since we’re back in the area often, picking up mail and packages in person is easy in those times. When we’re not, they help us handle all of our business. And I do mean all of it. Our personal mail as individuals is not insubstantial. The volume due to our companies—Val in Real Life LLC and Sierra Mountain Passes LLC—adds many layers to the mail conundrum. There’s a lot to keep up with.
Over the last year, getting to know the “PostNet ladies” as we call them, has been a delight. They’re friendly and fun but most importantly, they take really good care of us. They’ve become our lifeline on the road and tend to our requests at lightning speed—forwarding, scanning, shredding, recycling—constantly. They’re on it. We simply couldn’t do this without them.
There are other mail services from outfits like Escapees and Good Sam that I know others have had good experiences with. But this serves us well. The PostNet ladies know us personally and it’s just always fantastic to get back to Carson City, see their smiling faces, and know they have our backs.
